WSU Integrated Support & Empowerment (WISE) Counseling & Play Therapy Clinic
The WISE Clinic provides free mental health counseling for community members who may otherwise be unable to afford services. The WISE Clinic’s accessible care model for individuals and families provides valuable applied learning opportunities for Master’s students preparing for careers in counseling. Philanthropic support enhances the clinical services provided, as well as the quality of applied learning experiences Master’s students can access. Listed below are the foremost priorities for the expansion and continued success of the WISE Clinic, aimed at improving Wichita’s mental health services.
Technology for Students – Students working within the WISE Clinic need access to updated technology in order to have better applied learning experiences and prepare for their careers post-graduation. A gift of $1,000 would provide funding to purchase a laptop for the clinic. A gift of $1,300 would allow for the purchase of a laptop with more storage capacity.
Play Therapy Supplies – A range of games, art materials, and sensory items help facilitate therapeutic engagement and strengthen rapport between therapists and their young clients. A gift of $5,000 would allow the clinic to purchase additional supplies.
Full-Sized Portable Playroom – This versatile play space will create a safe environment for counselors to meet their patients where they are, both physically and emotionally. A gift of $4,000 would provide funding needed to purchase a portable playroom.
Graduate Student Assistantships – Providing a stipend for the clinic’s student workers allows them to focus on their training and developing therapeutic skills, lessening the financial burden of higher education. A gift of $4,000 would support a student for one semester. The clinic’s goal is to support five graduate students.
Supervisor & Faculty Support – Compensation for supervising faculty ensures a standard of excellence in services provided, as well as superior professional development for student counselors. To increase support for the growing waitlist, we hope to offer a stipend for faculty members who contribute to the clinic’s mission. A gift of $4,000 would support a faculty member for one semester. The clinic’s goal is to fund five faculty members.
