Alce su Voz

Alce su Voz is a program in Wichita State's modern language department that focuses on improving healthcare access for multilingual communities in the Great Plains. Our community engagement, workforce development, and policy research projects provide enriching applied learning experiences for WSU students from programs across campus. "Alce su Voz" ('speak out') got its name because it started with Spanish speakers from Wichita sharing their stories about health care experiences in which they had difficulties with communication or had to serve as an interpreter for a loved one. We continue to share their stories as we engage students, patients, healthcare professionals, and the public about the need to expand access to health care for all by breaking down language barriers.
